Legacy R&B Group Honoree
About Troop
Troop — an acronym for Total Respect Of Other People — is an American R&B group from
Pasadena, California whose smooth harmonies and sharp choreography helped define the late ’80s and early
’90s era of new jack swing. Childhood friends Steve Russell, Allen McNeil, John Harreld, Rodney Benford and
Reggie Warren turned a televised talent-show win into a recording deal, breaking through with their debut
single “Mamacita” and a run of hit albums and videos that became staples on R&B radio and TV.
Their second album Attitude delivered back-to-back #1 R&B singles with
“Spread My Wings” and their beloved cover of the Jackson 5’s
“All I Do Is Think of You.” Ballads like “Sweet November” and “My Heart” showcased their
vocal blend and emotional storytelling, while uptempo tracks captured the energy of late-’80s urban pop.
Decades later, Troop’s music continues to soundtrack weddings, slow jams, and nostalgia playlists worldwide,
securing their place as one of R&B’s most enduring groups.
