Grammy-nominated vocalist, soul storyteller, and timeless R&B icon.
Alicia “Miki” Howard is an American R&B and jazz singer whose voice helped
define sophisticated soul in the 1980s and 1990s. Born in Chicago to gospel singers
Josephine Howard of The Caravans and Clay Graham of The Pilgrim Jubilees, she grew
up surrounded by harmony, church music, and live performance.
After moving to Los Angeles as a teenager, Howard joined the group Side Effect
before stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist. Her breakout albums delivered
a run of Top 10 R&B singles including “Come Share My Love,” “Baby, Be Mine,”
and “Love Under New Management,” with “Ain’t Nuthin’ in the World” and
“Ain’t Nobody Like You” both reaching #1 on the Billboard R&B chart.
Beyond the charts, her story of resilience and reinvention was brought to life in
the acclaimed biopic Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story,
which chronicles her journey through industry triumphs, personal struggles, and
spiritual renewal. Today, Miki Howard remains a beloved influence on vocalists
around the world and a powerful symbol of longevity, honesty, and artistry in R&B.
